Filing a complaint

Complaints against registered interns and certified members are reviewed by the MHACBO Ethics Committee. Here's how the process works.

1
Review the Code of Conduct first

Start with Section 8, "Resolving Ethical Concerns" — it explains when a formal complaint is the right step. Read the Code of Conduct →

2
Put your complaint in writing

Describe what happened, and reference the specific Code of Conduct sections you believe were violated.

3
Email it to the Ethics Committee

Send your written complaint to ethics@mhacbo.org. Complaints are processed per the Ethics Policies & Procedures.

Should I file a complaint?

Code of Conduct · 8.6 Reporting (summary)
If no harm (or likely risk of harm) has occurred, supervisors should first try to resolve the issue informally, when confidentiality allows.
Conduct leading to harm — or a likely risk of harm — must be reported to the appropriate certifying, licensing, or regulatory body.
Seek supervision or consultation before reporting; the Ethics Committee can advise when you're uncertain.
Never file (or encourage) a complaint as retaliation, and never omit exculpatory facts.
This is a summary — the full text of 8.6 is in the Code of Conduct.

How are complaints processed?

The Ethics Committee follows the published Ethics Policies & Procedures for review, response, and resolution.
