Moving your certification into — or out of — Oregon. Find your situation below; each one has its own steps, fees, and starting point.

Situation 1Coming to Oregon — CADC

$175 fee

MHACBO offers CADC reciprocity with all states that use the NAADAC or IC&RC national psychometric exams for their addiction counselors. Other state-specific exams are reviewed on an individual basis.

If you're coming from an IC&RC or NAADAC state:

Don't contact the state you're leaving — the whole process runs through MHACBO.
Hold an active certification in good ethical standing before you start.
The $175 fee is paid inside your Certemy reciprocity application.

Situation 2Leaving Oregon — CADC

MHACBO cannot initiate the IC&RC process for you. Because MHACBO uses NAADAC exams for CADCs, we can't start the IC&RC reciprocity process to your new board — even if that board tells you to have us do it. That guidance is incorrect. Contact the board you're moving to and ask about their process directly.

Need an out-of-state verification? Email the form to mhacbo@mhacbo.org. The verification fee is $25, paid under Pay Fees.

Situation 3Out-of-state verifications

If another board needs proof of your MHACBO standing, we provide an out-of-state verification for $25. Email the completed form and pay the fee online.

Also reciprocalCPS — Prevention Specialists

MHACBO uses the IC&RC National Reciprocity Process for Certified Prevention Specialists, so a PS credential transfers to and from other IC&RC states. Check the IC&RC Member Board Directory to see whether the other state is a PS board.

Moving to Oregon: if your current state offers the IC&RC PS exam, ask that board to initiate the reciprocity process.
Leaving Oregon: if your new state offers the PS exam, email van@mhacbo.org to begin the transfer.
Non-IC&RC states: if the state doesn't offer the PS exam, you'll need to apply as a new CPS there (or, moving to Oregon, start a new CPS application with MHACBO).

Also reciprocalCRM II — Peer Recovery

MHACBO uses the IC&RC National Reciprocity Process for CRM II (Peer Recovery), so the credential transfers to and from other IC&RC PR states. Check the IC&RC Member Board Directory first.

Moving to Oregon: if your current state offers the IC&RC PR exam, contact your board to start the process.
Leaving Oregon: if your new state offers the PR exam, email van@mhacbo.org to begin the transfer.
Non-IC&RC states: if the new state doesn't offer the PR exam, you'll need to apply as a new CRM II there.
